The dancers are active participants in the music. Their movements do not simply accompany the drums; they are part of the rhythmic conversation.
Kpanlogo dance is often performed with bent knees and a low centre of gravity. Dancers may respond to the rhythm with:
- Foot patterns.
- Shoulder movements.
- Hip movements.
- Bending and rising gestures.
- Individual solo phrases.
- Group movements.
The master drummer watches the dancers and uses the lead drum to encourage, challenge, or guide them. A strong dancer can also inspire the drummer to create new variations.
